Many of the warning signs that <em><strong>cyberbullying<\/strong><\/em> is occurring happens around a child\u2019s use of their device.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a list of some warning signs that a child may be involved in <em><strong>cyberbullying<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There is a noticeable increase or decrease in device use, including texting.<\/li>\n<li>A child is displaying emotional responses (laughter, anger, upset) to what is happening on their device.<\/li>\n<li>A child hides their screen or device when others are near as well as avoids conversations about what they are doing on their device.<\/li>\n<li>Social media accounts are shut down or new accounts are created by the child.<\/li>\n<li>A child starts to avoid social situations with family and friends and activities which they enjoyed in the past.<\/li>\n<li>A child becomes withdrawn or depressed, or loses interest in people and activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other warning signs may also be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An unexpected drop in the child\u2019s grades<\/li>\n<li>Refusal to attend school, specific classes or group activities.<\/li>\n<li>There are changes in the mood, behavior, sleep and may show signs of depression or anxiety.<br \/>Mood change during or after being online.<\/li>\n<li>Appears to be anxious when viewing a text message, email or social media post.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cropped-stop1.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<h3>What can I do as a child to protect myself against cyberbullying?<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>In order to stop <em><strong>cyberbullying<\/strong><\/em>, it is best to prevent the problem before it starts.<\/p>\n<p>It is thus important the youth together with the assistance of their parents and\/or parents within the community to educate themselves on how to safely use the technology.<\/p>\n<p>To stay safe, the youth should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tell their friends to stop with <em><strong>cyberbullying<\/strong><\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Refuse to forward <em><strong>cyberbullying<\/strong><\/em> messages to others.<\/li>\n<li>Block communication with the <em><strong>cyberbully<\/strong><\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Delete messages without reading them.<\/li>\n<li>Never post or share person information about themselves or their friends online.<\/li>\n<li>They should not share their passwords or their friends\u2019 internet passwords with anyone.<\/li>\n<li>Never put anything online that they would not want their classmates to see.<\/li>\n<li>Do not send messages out of anger.<\/li>\n<li>Always be polite online.<\/li>\n<li>Be open with their parents with regard to their online use.<\/li>\n<li>Report any <em><strong>cyberbullying<\/strong><\/em> you may have witnessed online or if you are a victim of <em><strong>cyberbullying<\/strong><\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All schools in Namibia have teachers available at the schools whom are qualified and experienced in dealing with bullying. If a student is being <em><strong>cyberbullied<\/strong><\/em>, the student can talk to his parents, the life skills teacher or psychologist at school, or any other person they trust.
